Monetising the hidden flexibility of storage hydropower plants

Digital solutions combined with the extension of the operating range of the original Francis turbines at Alto Lindoso (Portugal) have enabled the power plant to enhance its power range and improve the provision of flexibility services. At the powerplant of Caniçada, a conversion to variable speed was explored, proving the potential for saving water and increasing revenues. The presentation provides an overview of these upgrades and evaluates the benefits.
